Especially at $50k? You’d think the high-trim version of the Durango would have the V8 standard, wouldn’t you? Silly FCA...

Regulations presumably.
sm70- why not Duesenberg?

I can’t think of a single us regulation that would prohibit them from having a V8 as a standard option on the top-trim model.

I thought the R/T was the top trim and that does have a Hemi V8 standard
Edit: just looked at the website, you can spec a citadel with the 5.7 v8, the v6 is just standard

A better question is, How come you can get a 3.0 EcoDiesel in a Grand Cherokee, but not a Durango?
Also R/T is the best trim for the Durango, you can keep your fancy pants Cidedel(I spelleded that wrong a purpose.)

Average fuel economy. Also why they like to pretend Caravans and at one point PT Cruisers are trucks.

Yep, the R/T is the top trim. There’s only a few hundred between it and the Citadel.

The Durango would be a good application for the diesel; it might allow them to lower the cost if offered on another vehicle. There’s very little difference between the Citadel and R/T other than base engine. The V6 motivates the truck pretty well, the 8spd autobox probably helps a bit.

I think they just figure the R/T is better suited for the type of person that wants a Hemi. The citadel is better suited for someone who just wants a really nice, comfortable, well equipped, and attractive people mover.

The problem is, the more Ecodiesel they sell, the more they have to fix under warranty.

It’s the appearance that makes me like the R/T over the Citadel. All the chrome just looks tacked on and cheesy on the Durango. I do wish you could get a roof rack on the R/T though.

IIRC during the recession when gas was expensive everyone complained that nice trims only came with big engines. So the big 3 decoupled trim from drivetrains. If gas goes back up you can still have your nice interior but with the more fuel friendly engine.

For a bit, the 2016 models only had v6 as an option. The RT was the only one in the US with the V8. They updated it last month so you could get them again. One guy bought an RT and swapped all the components so he could have a V8 ‘Citadel’.
Up here in Canuckistan, we had the option the whole time. We could have got it on the Bosses Limited, but decided the tickets weren’t worth it.

Makes sense. I'm curious now what the mix is between V6/V8 is on Citadels.
